Final Inquiry Post

It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of this course and the end of the inquiry project! The inquiry posts and overall project were definitely a highlight of this class for me. It was fun to be able to learn about something I wanted to learn about and I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. It made me more encouraged to put time and effort into each week’s blog post.

For next years 336 class, I recommend choosing something that you know you already like and want to learn more about, or to choose something that you’ve been thinking about learning and have just need the time/opportunity. I chose to learn some fiddle tunes as I know I already love music and have been wanting to learn some fiddle for quite a while, this assignment just gave me a time to do it. I would also suggest to keep your overall goals small and manageable. The semester will fly by and with some blog posts being cancelled, there won’t actually be as many posts as you think there will be. Small improvements over each week should be the goal, not big leaps.

What I enjoyed most about my inquiry project was diving into something I am interested in. It really did make this project fun and something I looked forward to doing each week. I also enjoyed seeing my progress throughout the semester.

I found the most helpful ed tech tools for documenting my learning was videos. For the nature of my project being music, videos were the best format to document it. I also found that including youtube links to different tunes or dances that I was referencing to be effective, as well as some images of sheet music.

For my next steps, I want to continue playing a bit of fiddle and improving my skills. There is a music camp I often go to in the mainland interior near my hometown called Gavin Lake Fiddle Treat. Usually when I go I take piano workshops but am considering doing beginner/novice fiddle workshops this year. This was a fun project and I’m happy with the topic I chose!
