Topic 8 Reflection
This week we looked at computational thinking and gaming in education!

Here are some screenshots of what I tried out on code.org. I had done some of this before in high school so it wasn’t completely new. I remember students really liking it so I can definitely see it being used in classes in different contexts.
Computational thinking is such an important skill and is used in so many every day tasks. I think that our BC Curriculum is doing a good job of shifting to focus on these soft skills like decomposition and pattern recognition. These skills need to be scaffolded for students, especially younger students, so that it becomes second nature when they become older.
For games in music classes, I found one on code.org called Music Lab: Jam Session. This using coding and AI to compose beats. I think this could be a fun intro to a composition unit or an activity in a composition class. There are other games online, usually for music theory such as Music Learning Community. The only games I remember doing were things like Kahoot which was mostly just for fun, not really for an educational reason neccessarily. From my own experience, games aren’t used very music in high school music classes so it is definitely something I will continue to look into.
