Topic 6 Reflection
For this week’s Pro D Day session, I attended the Black Canadian Learning Resource zoom for grades 6-9. There were many great resources presented in the resource that could be used in my future classes. Black representation is something that has definitely been lacking in my education throughout my whole life so I found this resource very useful.

One page I really liked was the page about Black Joy. I think this would be a good resource to share with a class as an introduction to a unit or topic, specifically about Black composers in a music class. I think it would be a good introduction because it is a fairly light topic. While it is absolutely important to learn about the oppression and racism that Black people have faced, I think hooking students attention by teaching them about Black joy and showing them that Black people aren’t defined by the hardships they have faced is important.
The teacher resource include lesson plans and activities that could easily be implemented or adapted for the classroom. It includes details instructions and suggestions of resources to use along the way including videos and definitions of words that may be unfamiliar to some students. Here is a video I found helpful for changing systemic racism in Canada that I would like to use in the future.
